James Lloyd is one of Britain’s leading portrait painters; the only artist to have won both the BP Portrait Prize and the Ondaatje Portrait prize. Lloyd is firmly established in the field of portraiture and his determinedly independent and non-deferential approach has resulted in commissions including Queen Elizabeth II, Dame Maggie Smith, Sir Paul Smith, Lord Irvine, Sir Chris Patten and Kenneth Clarke. Born in Lincoln, he trained first Blackpool College of Art and Design, before completing degrees at Coventry University and the Slade School of Fine Art.
