“Fry’s paintings are immensely decorative in the most positive life enhancing way”.

(Andrew Lambirth, 2000)
Anthony Fry (1927-2016) was a figurative painter whose strong use of colour and exotic subject matter were inspired by a love for the natural world. Having studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, Fry went on to win the converted Prix de Rome (1950) with a two-year scholarship to study at the British School of Rome. The experience resonated strongly with the artist who subsequently went on to travel in India, Turkey, Spain and Morocco. These travels inspired large parts of his oeuvre.
