‘Dunford describes his practice as “an enquiry that gets emotional and physical”. His painting process involves the observation of shapes, colours, the direction of light, the weight of objects in space and their degree of solidity. Invention, imagination, pictorial intelligence, sensing, feeling, conscious memory and unconscious activity (as his brain attempts to interpret, sort, and organise all the information that comes to it via his senses….)’ He values getting out of a thinking mode of being, preferring a state of “not knowing”, wherein he is freer from visual preconceptions and open to feeling intense emotions. In this state he allows what is before him to reveal itself more fully, over time….’  -                                                                                                    Extracts ‘Into the Light’ introduction by Dr Elisabeth Reissner
