Robert Dukes

Born in Hull in 1965, painter Robert Dukes trained first at the Grimsby School of Art and then at the Slade School of Art, where he was taught by Euan Uglow, Lawrence Gowing, and Patrick George. In 1988 he was awarded the Boise Travel Scholarship. His work is divided into directly observational works and transcriptions of other paintings, distinguished by their sensitive handling of colour and freshness of execution. Critic Andrew Lambirth has described his work as “full of life and vigour even though subjected to strict procedural disciplines”.
